Dr. Varghese Moolan: A Trailblazer in Business, Culture, and Humanitarianism Dr. Varghese Sebastian, popularly known as Dr. Varghese Moolan, stands as an exceptional figure whose life journey blends entrepreneurial brilliance, cultural exploration, and social impact. Born on February 18, 1953, in Angamaly, Kerala, he has risen to national and international prominence as the Chairman and Managing Director of Moolans Exports India Pvt. Ltd., among several other ventures. Holding a Ph.D. from Malaysia and an honorary D.Litt. from Kings University in the USA, he has established himself as a distinguished business leader, scholar, philanthropist, and film producer. He began his academic journey at St. Joseph’s High School in Angamaly and later pursued his pre-degree at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. He completed his graduation in Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry from Sree Sankara College, Kalady. During college, he demonstrated leadership and creativity, serving as the basketball captain and Ernakulam District Secretary of the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF). He also emerged as a budding writer, penning two Malayalam novels—Thekku and Erimalayilorabhayam—both recognized in literary competitions. His articles under pen names like ‘Anuranj’ and ‘Niranjker’ appeared in reputed publications such as The Times of India, Indian Express, and Manorama. Following graduation, he began his professional career with the Indian Express Group in Madras before moving to New Delhi as the Country Manager of Santul India, an automobile components company. His extensive travels across India for work gave him valuable insights into the nation’s diverse cultures and grassroots realities. These experiences also sparked a lifelong interest in history, spirituality, and anthropology. His spiritual quest led him to the sacred tomb at Rauza Bal in Kashmir and to Ladakh’s Hemis Monastery, where he lived as a Buddhist monk for two months. These visits were inspired by Buddhist records that suggest Jesus Christ spent part of his youth in India. His spiritual and historical explorations culminated in his book Dimensional Progressive Theory, a unique blend of science and philosophy. In 1980, he undertook an anthropological expedition to the Gondwana region, residing among the “Savara” tribal communities for two months. This fieldwork led to the publication of a detailed nine-part anthropological series in Manorama. A year later, he migrated to Saudi Arabia and soon launched “Vijay Supermarket” in Al-Khobar, named after his son. By 1986, he had established a spice packing and grocery distribution unit in collaboration with Saudi businessman Eng. Khalid Saud Al-Saleh. Recognizing the low quality of Indian food products in the Middle East, he set up a manufacturing unit in India in 1987 to export premium-grade spices and groceries under the brand “VIJAY.” Over time, the Moolans brand portfolio expanded to include JAY, ROMA, MOOLANS, BUTTERFLY, and ELITE. With a focus on quality, international-standard packaging, and efficient distribution, his group has established a strong presence in over two dozen countries. He has also made a mark in Indian cinema, producing notable films such as Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which won the Indian National Award in 2023, Odu Raja Odu, and an upcoming biopic on G.D. Naidu. His contributions to film and society have been recognized with several accolades, including the prestigious Golden Book Award 2025, previously awarded to global icons like Sadhguru and the Dalai Lama. Beyond commerce and art, he is the founder of the Global Malayalee Council and has served on numerous national boards including the Spices Board of India and Food Corporation of India. As National Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Foundation of India, he continues to work for systemic integrity. With a life dedicated to excellence across multiple fields, he remains an inspiring figure—a rare fusion of intellectual, entrepreneurial, and humanitarian values.
